Letter to Congressman Pomeroy

I just sent this letter to Congressman Pomeroy. I don't expect a response...but will post it here if he does.

Congressman Pomeroy, I, as are many Americans, am in need of an explanation. When I was a kid, I was taught to be responsible. "Do the crime-do the time." Pay your bills on time and in full. Help little old ladies across teh street. All that jazz. I have also tried to instill those same values to my own children. Explain to me how I am to tell them their country is spending BILLIONS of dollars paying off debts of companies and people who got themselves in trouble. How do I justify to them that we can't go out to eat as much as we used to because I have to pay OUR bills?

I was trying to explain the bailout to one of my kids and he asked what was in it for us?
So I ask...what is in it for us hard working folk who pay our bills on time. What happens to those of us who had the sense NOT to get into a mortgage that I couldn't afford? As for the impending "Stimulus" package...I commend congress for wanting to get all these wonderful things done. But you see, we can't afford it-and by "we" I mean "America".

Yes. SOME of this money is going to good causes. But the trouble is, I could have the best house on the block if I was fine being in debt for the rest of my life. Me and my wife would love to drive the nicest cars in town. We would even be sure our kids would fully appreciate going to the best colleges in the country. But you see, we can’t afford all that stuff…much like our cannot afford this stimulus package. Nor can our children. Or our children’s children.

I will stop there Congressman since I know you have better things to do with your time than to listen to yet another rant, but please, do what is right and don't vote for this monster when it comes back around. Sincerely, Jeffery Thomas
